Do you have a style maven in your life? Do you find yourself stumped as to what to get her
for Christmas with only 6 days to go? Sure, you could get her clothing, jewelry, a handbag
or shoes, but that is awfully intimidating since she has a very particular set of likes and
dislikes and has way more knowledge than you do about current trends and what is on the fashion horizon. And a gift card is so, well, boring.
However, fear not! I have compiled a list of some fabulous gifts that will be sure to turn you into a Santa with Style.
1. Grace: A Memoir
Grace Coddington released her memoir this year, chronicling her life as a former model and current creative director of Vogue. A guaranteed gift-giving home run for the fashionista in your life if ever I saw one.
2. The Fashion Coloring Book
Childish? Maybe. Fabulous? Definitely. After all, Alexander McQueen’s armadillo shoe graces the front cover! Ok, so maybe you don’t know what that is, but the style maven in your life most certainly will and she will love it. Accompanying box of crayons, optional.
3. A DVD of her favorite fashion documentary.
Options include, but are not limited to:
Bill Cunningham New York
The September Issue
Diana Vreeland: The Eye has to Travel (available for pre-order)
Valentino: The Last Emperor
4. A Subscription to a Fashion Magazine.
Chances are, she already has quite a few. But, let’s be honest, she could look at them for
days. So, how about hunting down something that she doesn’t have? Or getting her a subscription to another country’s version of a magazine you know she loves. (She may not be able to understand the language, but she can definitely understand the fashion). Here are some suggestions:
V
Nylon
W
i-D
Vogue Italia (or Paris, or China)
5. A Portrait Print by Scott Schuman from The Sartorialist: Closer
Even if you don’t, the fashionista in your life knows who Scott Schuman is and most definitely follows his street-style blog, The Sartorialist. Surprise her with a framed portrait print that features her favorite locale, an outfit that she would love or a fashion celebrity that she follows.
6. Lanvin Printed Notebook
Covered in cartoon drawings by Lanvin’s designer, Alber Elbaz, this notebook is sure to
inspire countless fashion musings, documented outfit ideas and shopping wishlists.
I could go on, but I fear I may overwhelm you with choices. And, seeing as the clock is ticking, better that you narrow down your options quickly and make a decision. Best of luck to you! (And to those who are still wondering what to get me, look no further…)
