My clients constantly tell me they want new ideas for accessorizing – well, here’s one that is super easy and comes in handy if you are in the 99% of the female population who does not have an hour a day to achieve a perfectly styled coif – a funky headband! Can I just preface my spiel by saying that I hate the term “headband”? It makes me think of a time when people would throw on a wide, neon-colored atrocity and head off to Jazzercize. These aren’t your aunt Cathy’s headbands – what they are is jewelry for your hair. Each of the examples above adds some color to any look, sits comfortably on the head and takes your style up a notch from your tired pony tail / bun.

How to wear these types of headbands:

- Keep it simple, and either skip jewelry around the face (earrings, short necklaces) or keep them super minimalistic: think plain silver studs or a couple of thin layered chain of varying lengths. Put on too much and you’ll look like you’ve decorated yourself like a Christmas tree.

- Keep colors neutral in the outfit you wear with the headband – great news for all you ladies that live in gray, black, brown and navy. If the headband is neutral in color or metallic, you can add an accent color in your outfit.

- Don’t over-think it – if you like the headband and it suits your face, wear it. There is no magic rule about being too old to wear a stylish headband.
