Seeing Spots!

Leopard prints have been all over the place this summer and the pattern is going to be even more prevalent this upcoming fall season. Up until about a year ago, I was convinced that leopard was a print that I would never wear. I don’t know why I had such a problem with the pattern. Now my thoughts on leopard prints couldn’t be further from the opinion I once had. Don’t get me wrong, leopard prints can be done very, very wrong. However, they can also make an otherwise boring outfit, standout. It’s hard for me to exactly pinpoint what changed my opinion about leopard, but I would like to share with you my favorite ways to incorporate this pattern into your wardrobe for the fast-approaching fall season.

Choose leopard prints in luxe fabrics

My first leopard print purchase was a skinny calf-hair belt. A pair of calf-hair, leopard print shoes look equally as chic. With a leopard print shoe, the shape is also important. I would go for a ladylike peep-toe at a reasonable height or a simple ballet flat.

Choose leopard prints in unexpected accessories

An oxford or a flat bootie in a leopard print is a great way to do this. I’ve also seen quite a few leopard print loafers around, which is another great option.

Wear your leopard print in an unexpected way.

By this, I mostly mean mix your leopard print with other patterns. I love the look of a long sleeved, classic Breton-striped shirt accessorized with a leopard print scarf. Mixing a floral print dress with a leopard print belt is another favorite of mine.

If you’re going to choose a leopard print piece of clothing, make sure it’s not too tight. This is where leopard prints can go bad the easiest. I’m going to be blunt, and say that anything tight is going to look trashy. However, I’m not saying a fitted leopard print piece can’t look great. For example, a pencil skirt in a leopard print with a great pair of bright colored pumps and black cardigan would make an amazing outfit.

One leopard print at a time

This one is self-explanatory.
