The Runway Returns!

Most people have a love/hate relationship with Project Runway, I myself am on the love side of this fence, however even if you are a hater there are a few great things about style that you can learn from each show! First off, it is a great way to see what colors and silhouettes are currently popular and to see how the designers put them together. Second, the hair and accessories used on the models are also fun to get ideas from. Heidi Klum alone has a new hairdo every show, and they ALWAYS look amazing. I wonder how much it would cost to hire her hair stylist for a week….I girl can dream, right? Third, it is a great resource to see how clothes are actually constructed and makes you appreciate your beautiful garments even more. It is also a great way to learn about what alterations can be done to clothes in your closet that don’t quite fit right, such as how to add a little length to a skirt when the model’s measurements weren’t right, or in my case when I accidently dried something in the wash and it shrunk on accident. My fourth and final reason is my favorite, Tim Gunn. Whether he is delivering heartfelt advice, giving fashion tips, encouraging others, or simply looking smashing in his amazing array of ties and suits, I can’t think of a better way to spend a Thursday night (don’t tell my husband). As an added bonus for all of us busy guys and gals who have to wake up early in the morning, we can all appreciate a 9:00 start time, and for that Lifetime, I thank you!

p.s. As a side note to this entry, if you are as crazy about Tim Gunn as I am, make sure and pick up a copy of “Gunn’s Golden Rules: Life’s Little Lessons for Making it Work”. It is a quick read, full of fun fashion related stories, style tips, and background about how the guru himself made it in the fashion industry. I took it with on vacation and devoured it in under a day, it is truly a great read!
