At some point late last year I was so inspired by a beauty image in a magazine that it stopped me in my tracks and immediately caused me to re-evaluate my look from the neck up. It was a close-up shot of a model with coloring very similar to mine- dark hair, dark eyes, olive skin. Her look was clean, minimal and striking- hair pulled up in a top knot, a swipe of black liquid liner and perfectly a crisp fuchsia lip. I knew that that was how I wanted to look all summer long. I’d already perfected my liquid liner technique and I immediately started growing out my signature shaggy bangs that I’d had forever. But lipstick was a little new for me and admittedly I didn’t know where to start. Sephora was the obvious answer but I didn’t want to necessarily invest 30 bucks in a tube that realistically, I’d probably only use a couple of times.
Then, shortly after, killing time at CVS, I spotted a deal I couldn’t pass up in the make-up aisle. Revlon ColorBurst lipstick was buy 1, get one 50% off. Okay, this I could do! For less than 15$, I got two tubes of wild, experimental color, Coral, a gorgeous hot orange, and Fuchsia, a dead-ringer for the color in my photo. And they totally rock! With a little balm as a base, you get a glossy Popsicle-type stain. Applied full-force with a lip brush or from the tube, you get a strong, graphic, runway-worthy mouth. They’re 8.99$ a pop, come in a full spectrum of colors, and are readily available at any drugstore. When it’s this easy to change your look, why not put on a brave face, literally, and welcome warmer weather with a bright smile!
