I get the L.L.Bean catalog. Now, before you pass judgement, let me just say that not only did I grow up in Maine, but I also went to college in Maine. L.L. Bean is like a pre-requisite! Plus, its great for gift-giving…shearlings slippers, monogrammed canvas bags, dog beds, etc.
Recently, in addition to the standard catalogue, I also recieved a smaller catalogue with the title “L.L. Bean Signature” on the cover. Intrigued, I flipped through it quickly.
L.L. Bean Signature is a line of clothing by L.L. Bean that is more modern and fashionable than their faithful, stand-by clothing that doesn’t change from year to year. These are the trendy items…well as trendy as I imagine L. L. Bean will ever be.
The catalog looked like J Crew lite. It featured classic pieces – plaid pants, tweed jackets, khaki pants, etc. – in modern silhouettes for both men and women. The catalog also featured
accessories such as belts, shoes, clutches and bags.
I was pretty impressed. The pants had lost the “Mom” silhouette that all previous L.L. Bean pants offered and the best of L. L. Bean – the classic rubber and leather lace-up boot and the barn jacket – were mixed in to add an authenticity that J Crew sometimes can only find by carrying other brands in a boutiqe-style relationship. Plus, I found the prices roughly 10-20% cheaper.
All-in-all, I think that if the J Crew look is your thing, you should give L.L. Bean Signature a chance. Check it out here!
