Right now, a lot of people are looking for jobs – especially new graduates. A lot of college students are also looking for internships for the fall semester and some of you might be hoping to switch jobs or change careers. As a Stilista intern and former consultant at a career consultation center, I know that clothes are one of the most important things you have to think about when preparing for a job interview. Here are some useful tips for getting dressed for your interview:
1. Dress conservatively.
You want the interviewer to remember you and not your clothes. It has been said that if you are remembered for your attire, you probably wore something that you shouldn’t have…
2. Select clothing that fits you well.
Choose clothing that is not too tight and not too loose. Also, women should never wear anything low-cut or revealing.
3. Suits are ideal.
Even if you know that the dress code for the position or for the office is casual or business casual, it’s still appropriate to wear a suit for an interview to give the impression that you’re serious about the job.
4. Wear solid, dark colors.
The best colors for women are navy, grey, and black. Avoid loud prints and sheer fabric. Men should also wear neutrals, but it is best to avoid black. A black suit may come off as too formal or austere in some situations. Instead, a classic navy or grey suit is best.
5. Limit yourself to just a few accessories.
Keep it to a minimum both in size and quantity. For women, nothing to shiny. For men, neck-ties shouldn’t have bold prints or too many colors. Wear a classic one that matches your shirt or suit.
6. Simple make-up.
Keep it simple and natural. No over-the-top glitter, shimmer or gloss.
We at Stilista wish you all the best of luck!
