I always have children around me. Not only did I teach piano lessons for 5 years, but I also have a few years of being called “Auntie” under my belt. Awww…now I’m missing my nieces and
nephews so much! But, I digress… As a lover of children, I – of course – want the best for them. As a Stilista intern, “the best” also includes the best clothing!

In my earlier blog “It’s Easy Being Green,” I provided basic tips for purchasing eco-friendly clothing. But, as I thought more about the topic, I wondered, “What about children’s clothing??
As I researched the topic further, I disovered that buying eco-friendly clothing for your children (or the children of your family members and friends) is not only good for the environment, but
it is also beneficial to the health of the child.

Organic cotton is probably the most easily accessible eco-friendly product. As a result, most eco-friendly children’s clothing is made of it. Organic cotton is not only softer and gentler to the delicate skin of babies and young children, but it also does not require pesticides during the growing process. As a result, those children who wear organic cotton experience less exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. Also, organic cotton may provide some relief to children with skin prone to allergies.

Additional eco-friendly tips and advice for selecting children’s clothing:
1. Hemp and bamboo are both viable alternatives to organic cotton when selecting clothing made of “green” materials.
2. Avoid clothing with plastic designs as these designs may contain harmful chemicals.
3. Research manufacturers who use chemicals in order to preserve their merchandise in their warehouses. If you find evidence of this, avoid the brand like the plague!

Hopefully this “green” research has been as helpful to you as it has to me! One thing is for sure…my nieces and nephews will definitely get eco-friendly clothing from their Auntie Luna! :)
