Most people I know feel very strongly about rompers – they either hate them or love them. I fall into the latter category.
Rompers started resurfacing a few years ago, but this is the first summer that they have gone mainstream. I have seen them everywhere from H&M and Zara to J.Crew and Barney’s. I have seen them in a variety of fabrics like cotton, linen and silk. And, for the most part, I have liked what I have seen…
The perks of a romper are similar to that of a dress. It is one piece, so you simply throw it on, accessorize, and you are done. There is no need to mess around to see what top and bottom go together. It makes getting ready in the morning very easy. I also think that many people discount their versatility as a great day-to-night piece. Just like a dress transitions from day to night with the addition of heels, fancy jewelry, a clutch and a stylish up-do, so does a romper.
The only real downside I encounter when wearing a romper is when I need to use the restroom. This is where a romper becomes a challenge. One has to treat it like you would a one-piece
bathing suit and take the whole thing down… Well, at least its not damp and sticky like a one-piece bathing suit!
If you are going to take the chance and go for a romper, the biggest piece of advice I can give you is that you absolutely must try it on. Since rompers are closed off at the bottom in a pair of shorts or pants, the proportions of your body will have a huge impact on the way it fits, specifically the length of your torso. You don’t want camel-toe and you don’t want a strapless romper to come crashing down…
