A White Shirtdress

Maybe it’s just me, but I have this problem with white shirtdresses.  Every time I pass one in the store, I brush my hand against it and get inspired by the beachy, painter-ly vibe; but quickly walk away thinking it’ll end up looking more like a lab coat than a summer layering piece.  Well, last week at the Stilista/ Second Time Around Grand Opening party, I had a one too many glass of bubbly and broke down and purchased one (it was only $12 with the amazing discount!)

So, now I have to put my stylist skills to the test and go through with my purchase.  Here are some inspiration shots on how I hope to wear this new piece this summer:

I especially love the second photo's concept of layering the shirtdress over a frilly skirt and then belting at the waist!  In the first and third look, notice how the volume of the shirt is countered by skinny pants- if one piece is voluminous, make sure the other pieces are not to keep some balance (with the exception of the last pink skirt, that whole look is super trendy and playing with volume everywhere, much harder to pull off, but boy do I love it!).
