Alexander McQueen took his own life on Thursday, February 10th, reportedly unable to cope with the recent passing of his beloved mother who was his main source of support.

The fashion industry is reeling – aware that they have lost one of the most talented designers of this generation.

McQueen was an incredibly gifted creative genius – the “master of the fantastic” – whose shocking and intriguing runway shows were always the highlight of any Paris Fashion Week.

Celebrities, pop-stars and fashion plates alike all love his designs for their incredible impact on the stage and on the runway. Members of the general public who can afford his designs appreciate the impeccable tailoring and fashion-forward looks. The rest of us mimic
his looks as best we can or save our pennies to purchase pieces from his ready-to-wear line, McQ, or from his collaborative lines with Puma or Samsonite.

McQueen is survived by his father, five siblings and a fashion house, now without its leader. An adoring public waits with bated breath to know the fate of the McQUeen label just one month before the new collection is scheduled to debut.

I truly hope that the fashion label can continue the legacy that McQueen established. However, I am confident that no one will truly be able to replace him. I am in mourning for all of the incredible collections that might have been, but, I truly wish that McQueen has finally found peace.
