Underwear as Outerwear
02.12.10

Haven't you always wondered if real world people can pull of runway looks? The artistic allure of fashion shows and designer's visions can be so inspiring and consuming that they can make you believe anything is possible (i.e: harem pants, 5 inch heels). I am all for wearing clothing as a statement, especially when it is absurd and slightly mind boggling- for example, you will often find me wearing a terribly gaudy vintage embroidered poncho from Mexico on Saturdays, but I love the statement that it makes and it reminds me of my childhood in SoCal.
But, if I ever thought I could pull off the sheer dresses that I loved so much on the Dolce & Gabbana runway, I would just remind myself of this picture as a warning of NO!

I do love the idea of sheerness and can't wait to incorporate it into my spring repertoire, but I plan on wearing multiple sheer layers over each other so they are opaque, or keeping the sheerness to one spot- like cap sleeves, a bib neckline or a blouse under dresses. Check out some of the more appropriate looks from the runway for real-world inspiration!
