Puffer Coats
11.29.09

Despite our relatively temperate fall, it was very clear this weekend that winter and its bitter cold are on its way. Very soon it will be time to dig out my puffer coat - truly the only coat that can keep me warm when winter is at its worst.
If you are shopping for a new coat this season, I highly suggest investing in a puffer coat. It will keep you both warm and stylish. And, I've already done the research for you. Check out my suggestions below:
1. Zara
For the most economical puffer coat, head to Zara. Each winter, they produce 2-3 versions of a puffer coat, all in the latest styles. I have seen them slim and fitted, coccoon shaped and trimmed in (faux) fur. In addition to being both economical and stylish, a puffer coat from Zara is also a good choice if you are vegetarian or vegan as they are filled with down alternatives.
2. Add
Add is a mid-priced line of down outerwear that is sold at independant boutiques and large department stores. Their shapes and silhouettes are always on the cutting-edge of style and their price points are $300-$500, making them an incredible value. Check them out online at www.shopbop.com or in person at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales or Alan Bilzerian.
3. Moncler
If you can afford it, Moncler is the best at what they do. From trenches, to bombers, to vests, Moncler makes the warmest and most stylish puffer coats in the world. They have a real talent for selecting unique and eye-catching colors and they are always experimenting with interesting finishes. And they fit like a dream. They come in numbered sizes instead of lettered sizes in order to offer more fit choices and they hug the body like no other puffer coat can. Shop for them online at www.ssense.com or in person at Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue or Neiman Marcus.
Here's hoping that you stay warm, dry - and stylish - this winter. Happy shopping!

I also LOVE Canada Goose puffer jackets. They are originally made for arctic explorers but they have a more fashionable line for city dwellers. Coming from LA, it was the only jacket that kept me warm enough through Boston winters- brrrr! The Tannery sells them or you can buy online.
