Neon Nail Polish
08.09.09

I have spent the last two months of summer trying to decide if I like the neon nail polish that has been popping up on manicured nails and pedicured toenails all over the city. My decision: I love it. But, as with any strong trend, there are some definite do's and don'ts.
1. Steer clear of metallic and sparkly versions.
Metallic sparkle on top of neon color just looks tacky.
2. If you choose yellow, make it a true sunshine yellow.
Neon yellows with too much green in them can make it look like you have some type of fungal infection.
3. You can't go wrong with hot pink.
My favorites are the orange-pinks and red-pinks. These colors remind me of watermelons and strawberries and other summery things.
4. Keep your nails short.
Long flourescent nails come off as trashy. Keep them short and neat - it will look like your nails have a delicious candy coating!
I plan to spend the last weeks of summer in neon nail polish, reveling in the bright colors of the season and hoping that September doesn't come too soon.
