It's Sale-ing Season

I get so excited for the Summer sales for two reasons–I love cotton basics like tees & tanks, and there are just so many different styles and colors to choose from during the summer months, and when the sales begin, I stock up. I’m also obsessed with open shoes–flip flops, sandals, espadrilles–anything that will let my feet breathe and allow me to show off my pedicure, and again, I stock up. I must have 4 pairs of summer shoes to every pair of winter shoes in my closet.

Navigating the sales racks can be a little overwhelming, but I have a few ground rules that I always stick by, and my purchases never fail me:

1. Only buy something you absolutely love.

2. Don’t get hung up on the price–just because it’s $9.99, it’s not a good deal unless you’ll wear it and look & feel great wearing it.

3. Minor alterations are okay–hemming something that’s too long, or taking something in less than an inch or two. Major alterations just aren’t worth it–a seamstress can’t make a 12 into a 4 without changing the entire drape of the garment.

4. If you see something that you love in a store, but it just looks too tried-on and stretched out, check the retailer’s website. You can usually get the same item online, and it will be brand new.

Check out Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale for brand new Fall items on sale. It runs from this Friday through August 3rd when everything goes back up to full price. You can pre-shop the sale at the store and pick up your purchases on Friday, or you can shop the sale catalog. Click here for details.
