Leggings are NOT pants.

Leggings are NOT pants. This is a fashion mantra of mine and I truly wish that all women would adopt it.
Don't get me wrong, I love leggings as much as the next girl. They are sexy and edgy and I feel kind of tough and rock 'n roll when I wear them. Plus, they offer more warmth than standard opaque tights during our chilly New Engald Fall and Winter. However...we must remember that leggings are a LAYERING GARMENT and can NOT stand on their own.
When wearing leggings, one should wear a longer top, tunic, or dress. Most - if not all- of your tush should be covered! The only time that your bottom should be exposed when you are wearing leggings is if they are from Lululemon and you are wearing them to the gym as workout pants! Also, if your top is on the shorter side and your behind may be exposed when you bend over or lift your arms, you must invest in a pair of leggings with adequate thickness in order to keep your private areas...well, private. The most tragic fashion victim is that girl wearing sheer leggings with a top that ends at her hips or a top that is riding up as she climbs onto the "T". Honey, your lace boy shorts are on display for all to see!
In order to display my point, I have selected two photos of the Queen of Leggings herself, Lindsay Lohan. Lindsay is the #1 fan of the leggings trend, but she is not without fault when wearing them. Below she was caught by the papparazzi displaying her crotch with a too short shirt. Well, at least she chose a faux-leather pair so as the prevent us from seeing straight through them...

Thankfully, sometimes she gets it right as displayed in the photo below. Here she models a pair of leggings from her own line, 6126. Her dress adequately covers her tush and the leggings add needed interest and texture to her monochromatic ensemble.

So, if you want to try out the legging trend or if you have tried it, but have maybe made some of the mistakes mentioned above, repeat after me: Leggings are NOT pants. Leggings are NOT pants. Leggings are NOT pants...
