What to Wear to a Warm Weather Wedding?

June is prime wedding month-everyone is in love, warm weather abounds and summer is on the brain… what could be better? I am attending an afternoon wedding on June 6th and had an urge to wear a maxi dress. They are so comfortable in the sun and let you relax during dinner and dancing (I’ll have two slices of cake please, no worries about my dress looking too tight!). I searched and searched but just couldn’t find an appropriate dress- they were either too vintage or outdated, too fancy for an afternoon wedding, too casual in cotton, or too attention grabbing because of the length or bright prints (ultimate faux-pas don’t draw attention away from the bride!) So, I decided to compromise and revised my search, looking for a knee-length dress with Grecian or bohemian details in a flowy fabric and a defined waist:

I like to wear solid dresses with embellishments to weddings because they are conservative enough for the church (when worn with a cardigan or blazer) but still look fancy at the reception:

I love these wrap and cardigan ideas to add some depth and color to the outfit:

Add colorful or embellished shoes ( I love a pop of red or unexpected charm, like the feather on the heel below). Pair with thin chain necklaces, and I love a little whimsical (not huge or anything that looks like a flower girl or veil) flower or hair accessory from one of my favorite Etsy designers:

I also found some other great dresses that are embellished and work with more minimal accessories than above. I especially love the black dress on the left- check out the amazing beaded sleeve detail! All dresses on Shopbop.
