I wear white year round. Well, white jeans anyway. And sometimes an off-white handbag. But for such a basic color (non-color?), it can be really hard to pull off. I just read some great tips for wearing white on glamour.com’s Slaves to Fashion blog.
#1 Stay Away From the White-Out Look. Wearing an all white outfit can look very chic if you add some colorful and/or natural tone accessories. And never wear an all white outfit with white shoes, unless you want to look like a nurse. I love this necklace & these blue sandals from Target. They’d look great with all white & would add the much-needed pop of color.

#2 Say No to Too-Tight White. When choosing a white garment, stay away from anything that hugs the body way too closely. White is not a slimming color if it’s skin tight because it shows every imperfection underneath. But when it drapes just right, it can definitely have a slimming effect. I love how the top of this Banana Republic dress is form fitting, but the skirt leaves a little more to the imagination.

#3 Watch Out for See-Through White. This rule is most important for white pants. You never want to see your undergarments through the fabric–that means that the fabric is way too sheer. Lindsay & I just picked out these pants for a client at J Crew. The cotton/linen blend is just the right weight for summer, but does not show anything underneath. And the cut falls perfectly over the body. We suggest tying the belt on the side rather than right in front.
