Mother’s Day is right around the corner so I thought that I would start the gift brainstorming early in order to avoid any of the last minute stress that inevitably comes along with any holiday – major or minor. Of course, your mother would appreciate a simple card or a home-made gift most because she is, well…your mother. But, if you feel the need to get her something material, please find my Stilista suggestions below:
1. Prescriptives.com has a large selection of make-up, skincare and fragrance products with which to pamper your mother. In addtion, they have some incredible offers right now including free standard shipping on any purchase of $35 or more as well as free standard shipping on any Mother’s Day gift set. To sweeten the deal even further, they are offering free gift wrap on any purchase through 5/10/09.
2. If you have an active mother, a small gift or gift card from Lululemon – newly opened in the Prudential Center – will surely be appreciated. Their workout apparel is truly the best! It fits likes a dream, is both stylish and colorful and they offer free hemming on any garment. If you can afford to splurge on an outfit, they have some fabulous colors and patterns out for the Spring season. But, in these times of recession, I am sure that even a pair of workout headbands with non-slip grip in your mother’s favorite colors would be greatly appreciated.
3. Steve Madden is chock-full of sandals and flats for the fast approaching Summer season. All are extremely reasonably priced and each style is offered in a rainbow of candy colors, sparkling metallics and pleasing patterns. What better way to brighten up last year’s sundress than with a pair of hot-pink patent t-strap sandals? Your mother will think of you every time she looks down at her pedicured toes!
4. Hit up So Good Jewelry on the last block of Newbury Street for inexpensive and fun costume jewelery. It is a bit of a dig to find the diamonds in the rough, but it can really be worth the effort. Last time I was there I found copies of Van Cleef and Arpells’ Alhombra necklaces in a rainbow of colors! With a lot of effort and little money, your mother could be the recipient of a great gift bag full of fun summer jewelry in order to spice up her wardrobe.
5. Zara boasts an incredible selection of gorgeous scarves for every occasion. They have crocheted, jersey, knit and sheer versions – all in an assortment of colors. Some are strictly designed to drape over the neck while others are wide enough to double as shawls as well. All of the ones that I saw retailed for under $20! A scarf is an easy way to add interest, texture, layers and warmth to any outfit. Your mother will be sure to appreciate such a versatile gift.
Good luck with your shopping! I hope that one of these ideas works for you or, at the very least, they inspire some creative thought and lead you to some ideas of your own. Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers out there!!
