So, I was just reading this month’s Lucky magazine (one of my favorite fashion magazines, especially as they have been doing so many great articles on money-saving looks!) when I came across their suggestion of layering a shorter slip under a longer lace or sheer dress for a new evening look. It shows a hint of leg, but without being too revealing. I think it is an innovative approach to lengths and layering. However, as a stylist, I know one of the number one rules is to elongate the body as much as possible. This block-y layering seems to chop up the silhouette into bulky and unflattering squares. If you wanted to try out this look, I would suggest making the difference in length between the slip and dress 1-2 inches at the most instead of the thigh-length difference shown in Lucky’s suggestion. Also, you may try layering a different color slip under the dress, instead of black on black, try a dark navy or brown under black for a nice contrast, like this look, or this one perfect for those looking for plus sizes!
What are your thoughts?
