Amen and hallelujah – the hourglass silhouette is back in full force for spring! While the skinny jean/tunic top look that has dominated the fashion scene for the past few seasons is cute, for those of us with curves (i.e. most women), it’s a hard look to pull off. Being a curvy woman myself, I was overjoyed to see the hourglass figure celebrated on the spring runways. The waist is back in full-force, and after a year of being innundated with clothing that could easily pass for maternity wear, I am really looking forward to the change!
One of the greatest things about the hourglass silhouette is that it draws the eye to the slimmest part of a woman’s body – her waist. One of the easiest ways to do this is by simply belting the waist. Be sure to keep your frame in mind – if you’re a really petite woman, an extra-wide belt is going to overwhelm you; similarly, if you’re a tall, large-boned woman, a skinny belt is only going to make you look bigger. I’m loving this Lela Rose belt from shopbop.com – not too big, not too small, and in a gorgeous purple shade that will make any outfit pop.
