Since the Oscars are tonight, I feel inclined to make a few predictions. Who will win the golden statuette for best adapted screenplay you ask? I have no idea! I haven’t even seen most of the movies that have been nominated! But, I am well versed in the red carpet-worthy gowns that graced the Spring 2009 catwalks. Designers created an array of gorgeous gowns from which the leading ladies – or rather their stylists – could choose from. Below please find my dress selections for the nominees in the “Best Actress” category.
I would love to see Anne Hathaway in this gorgeous Versace number. She looks fabulous in structured pieces and the dark lavendar color would be an unexpected choice on the brunette beauty.
Angelina Jolie would look amazing in this stunning creation by Elie Saab, but she may prefer this blouson gown by Halston since she has favored the style throughout this year’s awards season.
Although she favors pants and separates, I hope that Meryl Streep plays up her feminine side and chooses this Caroline Herrera creation which embodies Old Hollywood glamour.
Kate Winslet would look like a modern-day Grecian goddess in this Marchesa frock.
Finally, I am going to take a risk and select this Doo.Ri dress for Melissa Leo. I think that the color would complement the subtle strawberry highlights in her hair. Also, I like the combination of indie actress with non-mainstream designer.
Of course, chances are that I am wrong about these selections as there are literally thousands of gowns that the actresses could don for the ocassion from both this season as well as previous ones. Also, one of them may select a vintage dress and one may be lucky enough to have a one-of-a-kind dress custom-made for them. But, a fashionista can dream can’t she?
